Chapter: The Virtues Of Eisa, Peace Be Upon Him

Authentic hadith of Sahih Muslim Muttafaq ‘alayh (Bukhari and Muslim) Sahih Muslim 2368

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، قَالَ هَذَا مَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏ فَذَكَرَ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْهَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

رَأَى عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ رَجُلاً يَسْرِقُ فَقَالَ لَهُ عِيسَى سَرَقْتَ قَالَ كَلاَّ وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ عِيسَى آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَكَذَّبْتُ نَفْسِي ‏"

Abu Huraira reported ahadith from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (and one of them was) that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said Jesus son of Mary saw a person committing theft; thereupon Jesus said to him:

You committed theft. He said: Nay. By Him besides Whom there is no god (I have not committed theft). Thereupon Jesus said: I affirm my faith in Allah It is my ownself that deceived me.

Reported by Muslim (No. 2368), Al-Bukhari (No. 3444), An-Nasa’i (No. 5427), Ibn Majah (No. 2102) and Ahmad (No. 7807, 8615).

قَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( رَأَى عِيسَى رَجُلًا يَسْرِقُ فَقَالَ لَهُ عِيسَى : سَرَقْت قَالَ : كَلَّا وَاَلَّذِي لَا إِلَه إِلَّا هُوَ , فَقَالَ عِيسَى : آمَنْت بِاَللَّهِ , وَكَذَّبْت نَفْسِي ) قَالَ الْقَاضِي : ظَاهِر الْكَلَام صَدَّقْت مَنْ حَلَفَ بِاَللَّهِ تَعَالَى , وَكَذَّبْت مَا ظَهَرَ لِي مِنْ ظَاهِر سَرِقَتِهِ , فَلَعَلَّهُ أَخَذَ مَاله فِيهِ حَقٌّ , أَوْ بِإِذْنِ صَاحِبه , أَوْ لَمْ يَقْصِدْ الْغَصْب وَالِاسْتِيلَاء , أَوْ ظَهَرَ لَهُ مِنْ مَدِّ يَده أَنَّهُ أَخَذَ شَيْئًا , فَلَمَّا حَلَفَ لَهُ أَسْقَطَ ظَنَّهُ , وَرَجَعَ عَنْهُ.…

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'Isa bin Mariam, peace be upon him, saw a man stealing, and said to him: Are you stealing? He said: No, by Allah besides Whom there is no other God! 'Isa, peace be upon him, said: I believe in Allah and I disbelieve my eyes.'"
