Narrator:Jābir ibn Samurah

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لِجَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ أَكُنْتَ تُجَالِسُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ نَعَمْ كَثِيرًا كَانَ

لاَ يَقُومُ مِنْ مُصَلاَّهُ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي فِيهِ الصُّبْحَ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ فَإِذَا طَلَعَتْ قَامَ وَكَانُوا يَتَحَدَّثُونَ فَيَأْخُذُونَ فِي أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَيَضْحَكُونَ وَيَتَبَسَّمُ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏

Simak b. Harb reported:

I said to Jabir b. Samura: Did you have the privilege of sitting in the company of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? He said: Yes, very frequently, and added: He did not stand up (and go) from the place where he offered the dawn prayer until the sun rose, and after the rising of the sun he stood up, and they (his Companions) entered into conversation with one another and they talked of the things (that they did during the Days of Ignorance), and they laughed (on their unreasonable and ridiculous acts). Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) smiled only.

قَوْله : ( كَانَ لَا يَقُومُ مِنْ مُصَلَّاهُ الَّذِي صَلَّى فِيهِ الصُّبْح حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْس , وَكَانُوا يَتَحَدَّثُونَ فَيَأْخُذُونَ فِي أَمْر الْجَاهِلِيَّة , فَيَضْحَكُونَ , وَيَتَبَسَّم ) فِيهِ اِسْتِحْبَاب الذِّكْر بَعْد الصُّبْح , وَمُلَازَمَة مَجْلِسهَا مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ عُذْر. قَالَ الْقَاضِي : هَذِهِ سُنَّة كَانَ السَّلَف وَأَهْل الْعِلْم يَفْعَلُونَهَا , وَيَقْتَصِرُونَ فِي ذَلِكَ الْوَقْت عَلَى الذِّكْر وَالدُّعَاء حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ. وَفِيهِ جَوَاز الْحَدِيث بِأَخْبَارِ الْجَاهِلِيَّة وَغَيْرهَا مِنْ الْأُمَم , وَجَوَاز الضَّحِك , وَالْأَفْضَل الِاقْتِصَار عَلَى التَّبَسُّم كَمَا فَعَلَهُ رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي عَامَّة أَوْقَاته. قَالُوا :…

Authentic Sunan Abu Dawud 1294

I asked Jabir b. Samurah: Did you sit in the company of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ? He replied: Yes, very often. He would not stand from the place he prayed the dawn prayer till the sunrise. When the sun rose, he would stand (to pray Duha).

لاَ يَقُومُ مِنْ مُصَلاَّهُ الَّذِي صَلَّى فِيهِ الْغَدَاةَ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ فَإِذَا طَلَعَتْ قَامَ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏

"I sat with the Prophet (ﷺ) more than one-hundred times. His Companions used to recite poetry and talk about things that occurred during Jahiliyyah, and he would remain silent, and sometimes he would smile along with them."

جَالَسْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِائَةِ مَرَّةٍ فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الشِّعْرَ وَيَتَذَاكَرُونَ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَهُوَ سَاكِتٌ فَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ مَعَهُمْ ‏.‏
