Authentic hadith of Sahih Muslim Muttafaq ‘alayh (Bukhari and Muslim) Sahih Muslim 2120a

Narrator:Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar

حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدٍ - عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

نَهَى عَنِ الْقَزَعِ ‏.‏

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade qaza‘ (shaving part of one's head and leaving other parts unshaven).

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade shaving part of one's head and leaving other parts unshaven.

This prohibition is general and applies to all males, children and adults. As for women, they should not shave their heads.

نَهى النبيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عن حَلْقِ بَعض شَعر الرأس وتركِ بعضه.

والنهيُ عامٌّ للذكور الصغار والكبار، أما المرأةُ فليس لها أن تَحلِقَ شعرَ رأسِها.

Authentic Mishkat al-Masabih 4426

Nafi‘ quoted Ibn ‘Umar as saying he had heard the Prophet forbidding qaza'. Nafi' was asked what qaza’ was and replied that it was having part of a boy’s head shaved arid leaving part unshaven. (Bukhari and Muslim.) Some made the explanation a part of the tradition.
