حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَهْمٍ الأَنْطَاكِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ وُهَيْبٍ الْمَكِّيِّ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ سُمَىٍّ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

مَنْ مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَغْزُ وَلَمْ يُحَدِّثْ بِهِ نَفْسَهُ مَاتَ عَلَى شُعْبَةٍ مِنْ نِفَاقٍ ‏"

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever dies without having fought (in the cause of Allah) or having thought of fighting (in the cause of Allah) will die while having one of the qualities of hypocrisy.”

Reported by Muslim (No. 1910), Abu Dawud (No. 2502), An-Nasa’i (No. 3097) and Ahmad (No. 8510).

Explanation

Any man who dies although he was capable of fighting in the cause of Allah but neither fought nor had the intention to do so, has something of hypocrisy. The intention is proved by preparing the gear needed for fighting. Allah, the Almighty, says: {And if they had intended to go forth, they would have made some preparation for it} [Sūrat At-Tawbah: 46]. Whoever dies in this state is similar to the hypocrites and laggers who do not take part in Jihad. Since whoever imitates a category of people does belong to them, therefore every believer must have the intention of making Jihad.

Explanation in Arabic

كل رجل قادر على الغزو يبلغه الأجل ولم يغز ولم يحدث نفسه بذلك أي لم يكلم بالغزو نفسه، والمعنى لم يعزم على الجهاد ففيه شيء من النفاق، ومن علاماته في الظاهر إعداد آلة الغزو، قال تعالى: (ولو أرادوا الخروج لأعدوا له عدة).

وقوله: (مات على شعبة من نفاق): أي: نوع من أنواع النفاق ، أي: من مات على هذا فقد أشبه المنافقين والمتخلفين عن الجهاد، ومن تشبه بقوم فهو منهم، فيجب على كل مؤمن أن ينوي الجهاد.

وكونه يغزو أي: بشروط الغزو والجهاد، فإذا توفرت عُمل به وإلا بقيت النية موجودة إلى حين توفر دواعي الجهاد.

أن من لم يغز ولم يحدث نفسه به فقد أشبه المنافقين في تخلفهم عن الجهاد.
تحديث النفس بالغزو بصدق يرفع العبد إلى مقام أهل الايمان.
حث الإمام رعيته على الاستعداد للجهاد، وعدم تعوّد الجبن والخوف من لقاء العدو.
أقل الجهاد إشغال الفكر والنفس فيه
