وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خِرَاشٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنِي الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ، زَكَرِيَّاءَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ شَيْبَانَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُصْعَبُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ الْخَثْعَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، ح وَحَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَارِمُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ، وَرَجُلٌ، سَمَّاهُ كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلاَقَةَ، عَنْ عَرْفَجَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِمِثْلِهِ غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِهِمْ جَمِيعًا ‏"‏ فَاقْتُلُوهُ ‏"‏ ‏.

In another version of the tradition narrated on the same authority through a different chains of transmitters we have the words:

" Kill him."

An-Nawawi — Sharh Sahih Muslim

قَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( سَتَكُونُ هَنَات وَهَنَات ) الْهَنَات : جَمْع هَنَة , وَتُطْلَق عَلَى كُلّ شَيْء , وَالْمُرَاد بِهَا هُنَا الْفِتَن وَالْأُمُور الْحَادِثَة. قَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( فَمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُفَرِّق أَمْر هَذِهِ الْأُمَّة وَهِيَ جَمِيع فَاضْرِبُوهُ بِالسَّيْفِ كَائِنًا مَنْ كَانَ ) فِيهِ الْأَمْر بِقِتَالِ مَنْ خَرَجَ عَلَى الْإِمَام , أَوْ أَرَادَ تَفْرِيق كَلِمَة الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَنَحْو ذَلِكَ , وَيَنْهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ , فَإِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ قُوتِلَ , وَإِنْ لَمْ يَنْدَفِع شَرّه إِلَّا بِقَتْلِهِ فَقُتِلَ كَانَ هَدَرًا , فَقَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( فَاضْرِبُوهُ بِالسَّيْفِ ) , وَفِي الرِّوَايَة الْأُخْرَى : ( فَاقْتُ…

‘Arfaja told that he heard God’s Messenger say, “Various corruptions will arise, so strike with the sword him who tries to cause separation in this people when they are united, whoever he be.” Muslim transmitted it.
