Chapter: Clarifying the Waswasah (Whispers, Bad Thoughts) with regard to faith, and what the one who experiences that should say

Narrator:Abu Hurayrah

حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ، قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

يَأْتِي الشَّيْطَانُ أَحَدَكُمْ فَيَقُولُ مَنْ خَلَقَ كَذَا وَكَذَا حَتَّى يَقُولَ لَهُ مَنْ خَلَقَ رَبَّكَ فَإِذَا بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ وَلْيَنْتَهِ ‏"

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah may peace be upon him) observed:

The Satan comes to everyone. of you and says: Who created this and that? till he questions: Who created your Lord? When he comes to that, one should seek refuge in Allah and keep away (from such idle thoughts).

أَمَّا قَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاَللَّهِ وَلْيَنْتَهِ ) فَمَعْنَاهُ : إِذَا عَرَضَ لَهُ هَذَا الْوَسْوَاس فَلْيَلْجَأْ إِلَى اللَّه تَعَالَى فِي دَفْع شَرّه عَنْهُ , وَلْيُعْرِضْ عَنْ الْفِكْر فِي ذَلِكَ , وَلْيَعْلَمْ أَنَّ هَذَا الْخَاطِر مِنْ وَسْوَسَة الشَّيْطَان , وَهُوَ إِنَّمَا يَسْعَى بِالْفَسَادِ وَالْإِغْوَاء فَلْيُعْرِضْ عَنْ الْإِصْغَاء إِلَى وَسْوَسَته وَلْيُبَادِرْ إِلَى قَطْعهَا بِالِاشْتِغَالِ بِغَيْرِهَا وَاَللَّه أَعْلَم. وَفِيهِ ( اِبْن أَخِي اِبْن شِهَاب ) وَهُوَ مُحَمَّد بْن عَبْد اللَّه بْن مُسْلِم بْن عُبَيْد اللَّه بْن عَبْد اللَّه بْن شِهَاب أَبُو عَبْد اللَّه.…

He also reported God’s messenger as saying, “The devil comes to one of you saying, ‘Who created this? Who created that?’ even saying, ‘Who created your Lord?’ "When he gets that length the man should seek refuge in God and stop thinking about it.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)

" يَأْتِي الشَّيْطَانُ أَحَدَكُمْ فَيَقُولُ: مَنْ خلق كَذَا؟ مَنْ خَلَقَ كَذَا؟ حَتَّى يَقُولَ: مَنْ خَلَقَ رَبَّكَ؟ فَإِذَا بَلَغَهُ فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ وَلْيَنْتَهِ "

Authentic Sunan Abu Dawud 4721

People will continue to ask one another(questions) till this is pronounced: Allah created all things, but who created Allah ? Whoever comes across anything of that, he should say: I believe in Allah.

لاَ يَزَالُ النَّاسُ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ حَتَّى يُقَالَ هَذَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ الْخَلْقَ فَمَنْ خَلَقَ اللَّهَ فَمَنْ وَجَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا فَلْيَقُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ ‏"

Authentic Hadith qudsi Mishkat al-Masabih 76

‘God created everything, but who created God?’ ” Bukhari transmitted it. Muslim’s version is: He declared that God said, “Your people will continue to ask, ‘What is this?’ and ‘what is that?’ till they propound this: God created all things, but who created God?”

" قَالَ: قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجل: إِن أمتك لَا يزالون يَقُولُونَ: مَا كَذَا؟ مَا كَذَا؟ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا: هَذَا اللَّهُ خَلَقَ الْخَلْقَ فَمَنْ خَلَقَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجل؟ "

People will constantly ask you questions pertaining to knowledge till they would say: Allah created us, but who created Allah? he (the narrator) says: he (Abu Huraira) was (at the time of narrating this hadith) catching hold of the hand of a man and he said: Allah and the Messenger told the truth…
