Chapter: What a man may do with his wife when she is menstruating

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ فِي لِحَافِهِ فَوَجَدْتُ مَا تَجِدُ النِّسَاءُ مِنَ الْحَيْضَةِ فَانْسَلَلْتُ مِنَ اللِّحَافِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ ‏"‏ أَنَفِسْتِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ وَجَدْتُ مَا تَجِدُ النِّسَاءُ مِنَ الْحَيْضَةِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏

"‏ ذَلِكَ مَا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَى بَنَاتِ آدَمَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَتْ فَانْسَلَلْتُ فَأَصْلَحْتُ مِنْ شَأْنِي ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ ‏"‏ تَعَالَىْ فَادْخُلِي مَعِي فِي اللِّحَافِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَتْ فَدَخَلْتُ مَعَهُ

It was narrated that Umm Salamah said:

"I was with the Messenger of Allah under his blanket, then I felt that I was menstruating as women do, so I slipped out from under the cover. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Are you menstruating?' I said: 'I feel that I am menstruating as women do.' He said: 'That is what Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam.' So I slipped out and sorted myself out, then I came back, and the Messenger of Allah said to me: 'Come under the cover with me,' so I went in with him.'"

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan Ibn Majah

قَوْله ( فَانْسَلَلْت ) أَيْ خَرَجْت بَيَان وَتَدْرِيج تَقَذَّرَتْ نَفْسهَا أَنْ تُصَاحِبهُ وَهِيَ كَذَلِكَ أَوْ خَشِيَتْ أَنْ يُصِيبهُ شَيْء مِنْ دَمهَا وَأَنْ يَطْلُب مِنْهَا اِسْتِمْتَاعًا قَوْله ( أَنَفِسْت ) بِفَتْحِ نُون وَكَسْر فَاء أَيْ حِضْت وَفِي الْوِلَادَة بِضَمِّ النُّون وَجَوَّزَ بَعْضهمْ الضَّمّ فِيهِمَا وَفِي الزَّوَائِد إِسْنَاده صَحِيح وَرِجَاله ثِقَات ذَلِكَ مَا كَتَبَ اللَّه عَلَى بَنَات آدَم وَأَصْل الْحَدِيث فِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ وَغَيْرهمَا إِلَّا أَنَّ فِي رِوَايَة الْمُصَنِّف زِيَادَة ذَلِكَ مَا كَتَبَ اللَّه عَلَى بَنَات آدَم.…

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to embrace me during my menses. He also used to put his head out of the mosque while he was in I`tikaf, and I would wash it during my menses.

Maimunah daughter of Al Harith said “When the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) intended to associate and lie with any of his wives who was menstruating, he ordered her to wrap up the lower garment(loin-cloth) and then he had association with her.

أَرَادَ أَنْ يُبَاشِرَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ نِسَائِهِ وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ أَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَتَّزِرَ ثُمَّ يُبَاشِرُهَا ‏.‏

(on the authority of his father) `Aisha said: "Whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) wanted to fondle anyone of us during her periods (menses), he used to order her to put on an Izar and start fondling her." `Aisha added, "None of you could control his sexual desires as the Prophet (ﷺ) could."
