حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ ‏

"‏ إِنَّ النَّجَاشِيَّ قَدْ مَاتَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ وَأَصْحَابُهُ إِلَى الْبَقِيعِ ‏.‏ فَصَفَّنَا خَلْفَهُ وَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ فَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ ‏.‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah:

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Najashi has died.’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his Companions went out to Al-Baqi’, and we lined up in rows behind him, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went forward, then he said four Takbir.”

قَوْله ( فَخَرَجَ رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابه إِلَى الْبَقِيع ) دَلِيل عَلَى أَنَّ الْأَفْضَل الصَّلَاة خَارِج الْمَسْجِد وَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ الْجِنَازَة حَاضِرَة وَمَنْ لَا يَقُول بِالصَّلَاةِ عَلَى الْغَائِب يَحْمِل الْحَدِيث عَلَى الْخُصُوص أَوْ عَلَى حُضُور الْجِنَازَة عِنْده صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَنْ يَقُول بِهَا يُنَازِعهُ بِأَنَّ كُلًّا مِنْهَا مُحْتَاج إِلَى دَلِيل.…

Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) informed the people about the death of Negus the day he died. He took them out to the place of prayer, to offer the funeral prayer for him. He arranged them in rows, and made Takbir four times.’ Agreed upon.

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏- رضى الله عنه ‏- { أَنَّ اَلنَّبِيَّ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏-نَعَى اَلنَّجَاشِيَّ فِي اَلْيَوْمِ اَلَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ, وَخَرَجَ بِهِمْ مِنَ الْمُصَلَّى، فَصَفَّ بِهِمْ, وَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ…

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer in absentia for the Negus, and I was in either the second or the third row

Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer in absentia for the Negus, and I was in either the second or the third row.

صَلَّى عَلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ، فَكُنْتُ فِي الصَّفِّ الثَّانِي أَوِ الثَّالِثِ‏.‏

Narrated by Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh Explained

Authentic Muttafaq ‘alayh (Bukhari and Muslim) Sahih al-Bukhari 3880

that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) informed them (i.e. his companions) of the death of Negus, the king of Ethiopia, on the very day on which the latter died, and said, "Ask Allah's Forgiveness for your brother"

نَعَى لَهُمُ النَّجَاشِيَّ صَاحِبَ الْحَبَشَةِ فِي الْيَوْمِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ، وَقَالَ ‏"‏ اسْتَغْفِرُوا لأَخِيكُمْ ‏"
