وَعَنْهُ قَالَ: خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏-فَقَالَ: { " إِنَّ اَللَّهَ كَتَبَ عَلَيْكُمُ اَلْحَجَّ " فَقَامَ اَلْأَقْرَعُ بْنُ حَابِسٍ فَقَالَ: أَفِي كَلِّ عَامٍ يَا رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ? قَالَ: " لَوْ قُلْتُهَا لَوَجَبَتْ, اَلْحَجُّ مَرَّةٌ, فَمَا زَادَ فَهُوَ تَطَوُّعٌ " } رَوَاهُ اَلْخَمْسَةُ, غَيْرَ اَلتِّرْمِذِيِّ 1‏ .‏
‏1 ‏- صحيح.‏ رواه أبو داود (1721 )‏، والنسائي ( 5 / 111 )‏، وابن ماجه ( 2886 )‏، وأحمد ( 3303 )‏ و ( 3510 )‏ والحديث ساقه الحافظ بمعناه.‏ وزاد أحمد فر رواية: " ولو وجبت لم تسمعوا، ولم تطيعوا ".‏ وهي عند النسائي بلفظ: " ثم إذا لا تسمعوني ولا تطيعون ".‏

Ibn 'Abbas (RAA) narratedThat the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) once addressed us and said, “O People! Hajj has been prescribed for you." Al-Aqra’ bin Habis stood up and asked, ‘O Prophet of Allah! Are we to perform Hajj every year?” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Had I said ‘yes’, it would have become a (yearly) obligation. Hajj is obligatory only once in one’s lifetime. Whatever one does over and above this is supererogatory (a voluntary act) for him." Related by the five Imams except for at-Tirmidhi.

Allah, Most High, has decreed Hajj for you. Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamimi said: "Every year, O Messenger of Allah?" But he remained silent, then he said: "If I said yes, it would become obligatory, then you would not hear and obey. Rather it is just one Hajj."
