Chapter: If somebody dies without fulfiling a vow

Authentic hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari Sahih al-Bukhari 6698

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ الأَنْصَارِيَّ اسْتَفْتَى النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي نَذْرٍ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهِ، فَتُوُفِّيَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْضِيَهُ‏.‏

فَأَفْتَاهُ أَنْ يَقْضِيَهُ عَنْهَا، فَكَانَتْ سُنَّةً بَعْدُ

Narrated Sa`id bin 'Ubada Al-Ansari:

that he consulted the Prophet (ﷺ) about a vow that had been made by his mother who died without fulfilling it. The Prophet (ﷺ) gave his verdict that he should fulfill it on her behalf. The verdict became Sunna (i.e. the Prophet's tradition).

حَدِيث اِبْن عَبَّاس أَنَّ سَعْد بْن عُبَادَةَ اِسْتَفْتَى فِي نَذْرٍ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهِ , وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ شَرْحُهُ فِي كِتَاب الْوَصَايَا وَذَكَرْت مَنْ قَالَ فِيهِ عَنْ سَعْد بْن عُبَادَةَ فَجَعَلَهُ مِنْ مُسْنَدِهِ. قَوْله فِي آخِر الْحَدِيث فِي قِصَّة سَعْد بْن عُبَادَةَ ( فَكَانَتْ سُنَّة بَعْدُ ) أَيْ صَارَ قَضَاء الْوَارِث مَا عَلَى الْمُورَث طَرِيقَة شَرْعِيَّة أَعَمّ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُون وُجُوبًا أَوْ نَدْبًا , وَلَمْ أَرَ هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَة فِي غَيْر رِوَايَة شُعَيْب عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ , فَقَدْ أَخْرَجَ الْحَدِيث الشَّيْخَانِ مِنْ رِوَايَة مَالِك وَاللَّيْث وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِم أَيْضًا مِنْ رِوَايَة اِبْن عُيَيْنَةَ وَيُونُس وَمَعْمَر وَبَكْر بْن وَائِل , وَالنَّسَائِيُّ مِنْ رِوَايَة…
