Chapter: To cut short the mustaches

Authentic hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari Muttafaq ‘alayh (Bukhari and Muslim) Sahih al-Bukhari 5889

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رِوَايَةً ‏"

‏ الْفِطْرَةُ خَمْسٌ ـ أَوْ خَمْسٌ مِنَ الْفِطْرَةِ ـ الْخِتَانُ، وَالاِسْتِحْدَادُ، وَنَتْفُ الإِبْطِ، وَتَقْلِيمُ الأَظْفَارِ، وَقَصُّ الشَّارِبِ ‏"

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra: circumcision, shaving the pubic region, clipping the nails and cutting the moustaches short."

قَوْله : ( حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيّ ) هُوَ اِبْن الْمَدِينِيّ وَبِذَلِكَ جَزَمَ الْمِزِّيّ. قَوْله : ( الزُّهْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا ) هُوَ مِنْ تَقْدِيم الرَّاوِي عَلَى الصِّيغَة وَهُوَ سَائِغ , وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ عَنْ سُفْيَان قَالَ : سَمِعْت الزُّهْرِيَّ أَخْرَجَهُ أَبُو عَوَانَة وَأَبُو نُعَيْم فِي مُسْتَخْرَجَيْهِمَا مِنْ طَرِيقه , وَرَوَاهُ أَحْمَد عَنْ سُفْيَان عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ بِالْعَنْعَنَةِ , وَكَذَا أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِم عَنْ أَبِي بَكْر بْن أَبِي شَيْبَة وَغَيْر وَاحِد , وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ عَنْ مُسَدِّد كُلّهمْ عَنْ سُفْيَان. قَوْله : ( عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَة رِوَايَة ) هِيَ كِنَايَة عَنْ قَوْل الرَّاوِي : قَالَ رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ نَحْوهَا , وَقَدْ وَقَعَ…

The Prophet (ﷺ) said "Five things are in accordance with Al Fitra (i.e. the tradition of prophets): to be circumcised, to shave the pelvic region, to pull out the hair of the armpits, to cut short the moustaches, and to clip the nails.'
