حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ

بِإِصْبَعَيْهِ هَكَذَا بِالْوُسْطَى وَالَّتِي تَلِي الإِبْهَامَ ‏"‏ بُعِثْتُ وَالسَّاعَةَ كَهَاتَيْنِ ‏"

Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d:

I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) pointing with his index and middle fingers, saying. "The time of my Advent and the Hour are like these two fingers."

Reported by Al-Bukhari (No. 4936).

Al-Mustaurid b. Shaddad reported the Prophet as saying, "I have been commissioned when the end of time is near and I have preceded it as this has preceded that," indicating his forefinger and his middle finger. Tirmidhi transmitted it.

Authentic Sahih al-Bukhari 5301

(a companion of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), holding out his middle and index fingers, said, "My advent and the Hour's are like this (or like these)," namely, the period between his era and the Hour is like the distance between those two fingers, i.e., very short.
