"And (remember) when We said: Enter this town (Jerusalem) and eat bountifully therein with pleasure and delight wherever you wish..." (V.2:58)

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏

قِيلَ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ‏‏{‏ادْخُلُوا الْبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُولُوا حِطَّةٌ‏}‏ فَدَخَلُوا يَزْحَفُونَ عَلَى أَسْتَاهِهِمْ، فَبَدَّلُوا وَقَالُوا حِطَّةٌ، حَبَّةٌ فِي شَعَرَةٍ ‏"

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It was said to the children of Israel, 'Enter the gate (of the town), prostrate (in humility) and say: Hittatun (i.e. repentance) i.e. O Allah! Forgive our sins.' But they entered by dragging themselves on their buttocks, so they did something different (from what they had been ordered to do) and said, 'Hittatun,' but added, "A grain in a hair."

حَدِيث أَبِي هُرَيْرَة فِي قَوْله تَعَالَى ( وَقُولُوا حِطَّةٌ ) وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ ذِكْره فِي قِصَّة مُوسَى مِنْ أَحَادِيث الْأَنْبِيَاء وَأَحَلْت بِشَرْحِهِ عَلَى تَفْسِير سُورَة الْأَعْرَاف , وَسَأَذْكُرُهُ هُنَاكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّه تَعَالَى , وَقَوْله فِي أَوَّل هَذَا الْإِسْنَاد " حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّد " لَمْ يَقَع مَنْسُوبًا إِلَّا فِي رِوَايَة أَبِي عَلِيّ بْن السَّكَن عَنْ الْفَرَبْرِيِّ فَقَالَ " مُحَمَّد بْن سَلَّامٍ " وَيَحْتَمِل عِنْدِي أَنْ يَكُون مُحَمَّد بْن يَحْيَى الذُّهْلِيَّ , فَإِنَّهُ يَرْوِي عَنْ عَبْد الرَّحْمَن بْن مَهْدِيّ أَيْضًا , وَأَمَّا أَبُو عَلَى الْجَيَّانِيُّ فَقَالَ : الْأَشْبَه أَنَّهُ مُحَمَّد بْن بَشَّار.…

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "It was said to Bani Israel, Enter the gate (of the town) with humility (prostrating yourselves) and saying: "Repentance", but they changed the word and entered the town crawling on their buttocks and saying: "A wheat grain in the hair."

قِيلَ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ادْخُلُوا الْبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُولُوا حِطَّةٌ‏.‏ فَبَدَّلُوا فَدَخَلُوا يَزْحَفُونَ عَلَى أَسْتَاهِهِمْ، وَقَالُوا حَبَّةٌ فِي شَعْرَةٍ ‏"

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "It was said to the children of Israel, 'Enter the gate in prostration and say Hitatun. (7.161) We shall forgive you, your faults.' But they changed (Allah's Order) and entered, dragging themselves on their buttocks and said, 'Habatun (a grain) in a Sha'ratin (hair).

قِيلَ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ‏‏{‏ادْخُلُوا الْبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُولُوا حِطَّةٌ نَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ خَطَايَاكُمْ‏}‏ فَبَدَّلُوا فَدَخَلُوا يَزْحَفُونَ عَلَى أَسْتَاهِهِمْ وَقَالُوا حَبَّةٌ فِي شَعَرَةٍ ‏"

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Allah, the Exalted, said to the children of Israel : "... but enter the gate with humility, in posture and in words, and you will be forgiven your faults (tughfar lakum)".
