حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِشْكَابٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ لَقِيتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ فَقُلْتُ طُوبَى لَكَ

صَحِبْتَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَبَايَعْتَهُ تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ‏.‏ فَقَالَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي إِنَّكَ لاَ تَدْرِي مَا أَحْدَثْنَا بَعْدَهُ‏.‏

Narrated Al-Musaiyab:

I met Al-Bara bin `Azib and said (to him). "May you live prosperously! You enjoyed the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) and gave him the Pledge of allegiance (of Al-Hudaibiya) under the Tree." On that, Al- Bara' said, "O my nephew! You do not know what we have done after him (i.e. his death).

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani — Fath al-Bari

قَوْله : ( عَنْ الْعَلَاءِ بْن الْمُسَيِّبِ ) أَيْ اِبْن رَافِع الْكُوفِيِّ , وَهُوَ وَأَبُوهُ ثِقَتَانِ , وَمَا لَهُ فِي الْبُخَارِيّ إِلَّا هَذَا الْحَدِيث وَآخَر فِي الدَّعَوَات , وَلِأَبِيهِ حَدِيث آخَر فِي الْأَدَب مِنْ رِوَايَة مَنْصُور بْن الْمُعْتَمِر عَنْهُ. قَوْله : ( طُوبَى لَك صَحِبْت النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) غَبَطَهُ التَّابِعِيّ بِصُحْبَةِ رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَهُوَ مِمَّا يُغْبَطُ بِهِ , لَكِنْ سَلَكَ الصَّحَابِيُّ مَسْلَك التَّوَاضُعِ فِي جَوَابِهِ. وَطُوبَى فِي الْأَصْلِ شَجَرَةٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ تَقَدَّمَ تَفْسِيرُهَا فِي صِفَةِ الْجَنَّةِ فِي بَدْءِ الْخَلْقِ , وَتُطْلَقُ وَيُرَادُ بِهَا الْخَيْرُ أَوْ الْجَنَّةُ أَوْ أَقْصَى…

I said to Salama bin Al-Akwa`, "For what did you give the Pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on the day of Al-Hudaibiya?" He replied, "For death (in the Cause of Islam.).

أَىِّ شَىْءٍ بَايَعْتُمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ‏.‏ قَالَ عَلَى الْمَوْتِ‏.‏

that in the time (of the battle) of Al-Harra a person came to him and said, "Ibn Hanzala is taking the pledge of allegiance from the people for death." He said, "I will never give a pledge of allegiance for such a thing to anyone after Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)."

لَمَّا كَانَ زَمَنَ الْحَرَّةِ أَتَاهُ آتٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ ابْنَ حَنْظَلَةَ يُبَايِعُ النَّاسَ عَلَى الْمَوْتِ‏.‏ فَقَالَ لاَ أُبَايِعُ عَلَى هَذَا أَحَدًا بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏.‏
