حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي عُمَيْسٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ

كَانَ يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ تَعُدُّهُ الْيَهُودُ عِيدًا، قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ فَصُومُوهُ أَنْتُمْ ‏"

Narrated Abu Musa:

The day of 'Ashura' was considered as `Id day by the Jews. So the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered, "I recommend you (Muslims) to fast on this day."

حَدِيث أَبِي مُوسَى وَهُوَ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ قَالَ " كَانَ يَوْم عَاشُورَاء تَعُدُّهُ الْيَهُود عِيدًا , فَقَالَ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : فَصُومُوهُ أَنْتُمْ " وَفِي رِوَايَة مُسْلِم " كَانَ يَوْم عَاشُورَاء تُعَظِّمُهُ الْيَهُود تَتَّخِذُهُ عِيدًا " فَظَاهِرُهُ أَنَّ الْبَاعِثَ عَلَى الْأَمْر بِصَوْمِهِ مَحَبَّةُ مُخَالَفَة الْيَهُود حَتَّى يُصَام مَا يُفْطِرُونَ فِيهِ لِأَنَّ يَوْم الْعِيد لَا يُصَامُ , وَحَدِيث اِبْن عَبَّاس يَدُلُّ عَلَى أَنَّ الْبَاعِثَ عَلَى صِيَامِهِ مُوَافَقَتُهُمْ عَلَى السَّبَب وَهُوَ شُكْر اللَّه تَعَالَى عَلَى نَجَاة مُوسَى , لَكِنْ لَا يَلْزَم مِنْ تَعْظِيمهمْ لَهُ وَاعْتِقَادهمْ بِأَنَّهُ عِيد أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَصُومُونَهُ فَلَعَلَّهُمْ كَ…

The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered a man from the tribe of Bani Aslam to announce amongst the people that whoever had eaten should fast the rest of the day, and whoever had not eaten should continue his fast, as that day was the day of 'Ashura' .
