حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أَنَّ ابْنَ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَهُمْ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ يَقُولُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

قَدْ تُوُفِّيَ الْيَوْمَ رَجُلٌ صَالِحٌ مِنَ الْحَبَشِ فَهَلُمَّ فَصَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ فَصَفَفْنَا فَصَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَيْهِ وَنَحْنُ صُفُوفٌ

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Today a pious man from Ethiopia (i.e. An Najashi) has expired, come on to offer the funeral prayer." (Jabir said): We lined up in rows and after that the Prophet (ﷺ) led the prayer and we were in rows. Jabir added, I was in the second row."

قَوْله : ( قَدْ تُوُفِّيَ الْيَوْم رَجُل صَالِح مِنْ الْحَبَش ) بِفَتْحِ الْمُهْمَلَة وَالْمُوَحَّدَة بَعْدهَا مُعْجَمَة , فِي رِوَايَة مُسْلِم مِنْ طَرِيق يَحْيَى بْن سَعِيد عَنْ اِبْن جُرَيْجٍ " مَاتَ الْيَوْم عَبْد لِلَّهِ صَالِح أَصْحَمَة " وَلِلْمُصَنِّفِ فِي هِجْرَة الْحَبَشَة مِنْ طَرِيق اِبْن عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ اِبْن جُرَيْجٍ " فَقُومُوا فَصَلُّوا عَلَى أَخِيكُمْ أَصْحَمَة " وَسَيَأْتِي ضَبْط هَذَا الِاسْم بَعْد فِي " بَاب التَّكْبِير عَلَى الْجِنَازَة ". قَوْله : ( فَصَلَّى النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) زَادَ الْمُسْتَمْلِي فِي رِوَايَته " وَنَحْنُ صُفُوف " وَبِهِ يَصِحّ مَقْصُود التَّرْجَمَة. وَقَالَ الْكَرْمَانِيُّ : يُؤْخَذ مَقْصُودهَا مِنْ قَوْله " فَصَفَفْنَا " لِأَ…

Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) informed the people about the death of Negus the day he died. He took them out to the place of prayer, to offer the funeral prayer for him. He arranged them in rows, and made Takbir four times.’ Agreed upon.

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer in absentia for the Negus, and I was in either the second or the third row

Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer in absentia for the Negus, and I was in either the second or the third row.

صَلَّى عَلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ، فَكُنْتُ فِي الصَّفِّ الثَّانِي أَوِ الثَّالِثِ‏.‏

Narrated by Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh Explained

Authentic Muttafaq ‘alayh (Bukhari and Muslim) Sahih al-Bukhari 3880

that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) informed them (i.e. his companions) of the death of Negus, the king of Ethiopia, on the very day on which the latter died, and said, "Ask Allah's Forgiveness for your brother"
