حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عِيسَى الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ الدَّامَغَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعٌ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، يَقُولُ

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى قُبَاءَ يُصَلِّي فِيهِ - قَالَ - فَجَاءَتْهُ الأَنْصَارُ فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي ‏.‏ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لِبِلاَلٍ كَيْفَ رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ حِينَ كَانُوا يُسَلِّمُونَ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي قَالَ يَقُولُ هَكَذَا وَبَسَطَ كَفَّهُ ‏.‏ وَبَسَطَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ كَفَّهُ وَجَعَلَ بَطْنَهُ أَسْفَلَ وَجَعَلَ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى فَوْقٍ ‏.‏

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) went out to Qubā' Mosque to pray in it. He added: "Some of the Ansār came to him and greeted him while he was praying." He then added: "I asked Bilāl: "How did you see the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) return their greeting when they greeted him while he was praying?" Bilāl said: "He made this gesture," and he stretched out his hand with the palm facing down and the back facing up.

Explanation

This noble Hadīth clarifies the permissibility of returning the greeting with a hand gesture during prayer based on the action of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) with the Ansār; when they greeted him while he was praying in Qubā' Mosque, he simply extended his hand.

Explanation in Arabic

يبين الحديث الشريف جواز رد السلام بالإشارة حال الصلاة لفعل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ذلك مع الأنصار حين سلموا عليه وهو يصلي في مسجد قباء، وصفته ببسط الكف فقط.

  • حِرْصُ ابن عمر-رضي الله عنهما- على سُنَّةِ النَّبِيِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وتتَبُّعِ آثاره، فما فاته من سنته يسألُ عنه من حضره.
  • أنَّ الإشارة في الصّلاة لا تُبْطِلُهَا، ولو كانت إشارةً مفهومة تكفي عن الكلام، سواءٌ أكانتْ بالرأس، أو باليد، أو بالعين، أو غيرها.
  • أنَّ الحركة إذا كانَتْ قليلةً لحاجة لا تُبْطِلُ الصلاة، فهذا النبيُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يبسط يده لكل مُسَلِّم عليه.
  • جوازُ السلام على المصلِّي، فإنَّ النَّبيَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لمَّا سلَّم من الصلاة، أقرَّهم، ولم ينههم عن ذلك.
  • استحباب رَدِّ السلام من المصلِّي بالإشارة.
  • حُسْنُ خلق النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم-؛ فإنَّه يأتي أبوابَ الخيرات بِحَسَبِ حاله فيها، وهو بهذه الأعمالِ يأتي فعلَ الخير، ويشرعه لأمته، عليه الصلاة والسلام.
  • استحبابُ زيارة مسجد قباء، والصلاةِ فيه لِمَنْ هو في المدينة.

( إِلَى قُبَاء ) : بِضَمِّ قَاف وَخِفَّة مُوَحَّدَة مَعَ مَدّ وَقَصْر مَوْضِع بِمِيلَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَة مِنْ الْمَدِينَة ( يُصَلِّي فِيهِ ) : أَيْ فِي مَسْجِده ( وَبَسَطَ جَعْفَر بْن عَوْن كَفّه وَجَعَلَ بَطْنه ) : أَيْ بَطْن الْكَفّ ( أَسْفَل ) : أَيْ إِلَى جَانِب السُّفْل ( وَجَعَلَ ظَهْره إِلَى فَوْق ) : وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ وَرَدَ الْإِشَارَة لِرَدِّ السَّلَام فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيث بِجَمِيعِ الْكَفّ , وَفِي حَدِيث جَابِر بِالْيَدِ , وَفِي حَدِيث اِبْن عُمَر عَنْ صُهَيْب بِالْإِصْبَعِ , وَفِي حَدِيث اِبْن مَسْعُود عِنْد الْبَيْهَقِيِّ بِلَفْظِ فَأَوْمَأَ بِرَأْسِهِ , وَفِي رِوَايَة لَهُ فَقَالَ بِرَأْسِهِ يَعْنِي الرَّدّ , وَيُجْمَع بَيْن هَذِهِ الرِّوَايَات بِأَنَّهُ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَ…

Authentic Sunan Abu Dawud 925

I passed by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who was praying. I saluted him and he returned it by making a sign. The narrator said: I do not know but that he said: He made a sign with his finger. This is the version reported by Qutaybah.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to the mosque at Quba’ and performed prayer there. Some men of the Ansar came and greeted him. I asked Suhaib, who was with him: ‘How did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) respond to them?’ He said: ‘He gestured with his hand.’”

Authentic Sunan an-Nasa'i 1187

"Ibn 'Umar said: The Prophet (ﷺ) entered the Masjid of Quba' to pray there, then some men came in and greeted him with Salam. I asked Suhaib, who was with him: 'What did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) do when he was greeted?' He said: 'He used to gesture with his hand.'"
