حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا نَامَ قَالَ ‏"‏

اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَأَمُوتُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ قَالَ ‏"‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ ‏"

Hudhaifah said :

when the prophet (May peace be upon him) lay down on his bed (at night), he would say: O Allah! In Thy name I die and live. When he awoke, he said: praise be to Allah who has given us life after causing us to die and to whom we shall be resurrected.

( اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِك أَحْيَا وَأَمُوت ) : أَيْ بِذِكْرِ اِسْمك أَحْيَى مَا حَيِيت وَعَلَيْهِ أَمُوت , وَيَحْتَمِل أَنْ يَكُون لَفْظ الْإِثْم زَائِدًا كَمَا فِي قَوْل الشَّاعِر إِلَى الْحَوْل ثُمَّ اِسْم السَّلَام عَلَيْكُمَا ( أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَمَا أَمَاتَنَا ) أَيْ رَدَّ عَلَيْنَا الْقُوَّة وَالْحَرَكَة بَعْد مَا أَزَالَهُمَا مِنَّا بِالنَّوْمِ ( وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُور ) أَيْ الْبَعْث يَوْم الْقِيَامَة وَالْإِحْيَاء بَعْد الْإِمَاتَة. قَالَ الْمُنْذِرِيُّ : وَأَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيّ وَالتِّرْمِذِيّ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ وَابْن مَاجَهْ.…

When the Prophet (ﷺ) went to bed, he would say: "Bismika amutu wa ahya." and when he got up he would say:" Al-hamdu li l-lahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilaihin-nushur."

إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قَالَ ‏"‏ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا ‏"‏‏.‏ وَإِذَا قَامَ قَالَ ‏"‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ ‏"

When the Prophet (ﷺ) went to bed at night, he would put his hand under his cheek and then say, "Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahya," and when he got up, he would say, "Al-Hamdu lil-lahi al-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana, wa ilaihi an-nushur."

When the Prophet (ﷺ) went to bed, he used to say, "Allahumma bismika ahya wa amut." And when he woke up in the mornings he used to say, "Al-hamdu li l-lahi al-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilaihi-nnushur."

Authentic Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3417

“O Allah, in Your Name I die and I live (Allāhumma bismika amūtu wa aḥyā).” And when he would wake, he would say: “Allah praise is due to Allah who revived my soul after causing its death and to Him is the resurrection (Al-ḥamdulillāh, alladhī aḥyā nafsī ba`da mā amātahā wa ilaihin-nushūr).”

“Whenever the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) woke up in the morning, he would say: ‘Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba’dama amatana wa ilayhi’n-nushur (Praise is to Allah Who has given us life after taking it from us, and unto Him is the Resurrection).’”
