حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ غَزْوَانَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

أَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ أَكْفَرَ رَجُلاً مُسْلِمًا فَإِنْ كَانَ كَافِرًا وَإِلاَّ كَانَ هُوَ الْكَافِرَ ‏"

Ibn ‘Umar reported the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) as saying :

If any believing man calls another believing man an unbeliever, if he is actually an infidel, it is all right ; if not, he will become an infidel.

Reported by Abu Dawud (No. 4687).

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( أَكْفَرَ رَجُلًا مُسْلِمًا ) : أَيْ نَسَبَهُ إِلَى الْكُفْر ( فَإِنْ كَانَ ) : الرَّجُل الَّذِي نُسِبَ إِلَيْهِ الْكُفْر ( كَافِرًا ) : فَلَا شَيْء عَلَى النَّاسِب ( وَإِلَّا ) : أَيْ لَمْ يَكُنْ هُوَ كَافِرًا ( كَانَ هُوَ ) : أَيْ النَّاسِب ( الْكَافِر ) : أَيْ يُخَاف عَلَيْهِ شُؤْم كَلَامه. قَالَهُ السِّنْدِيُّ وَالْحَدِيث سَكَتَ عَنْهُ الْمُنْذِرِيُّ.…

"‏لا يرمي رجل رجلا بالفسق أو الكفر، إلا ارتدت عليه، إن لم يكن صاحبه كذلك‏"

When a man calls his brother an unbeliever, it returns (at least) to one of them.

إِذَا كَفَّرَ الرَّجُلُ أَخَاهُ فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِهَا أَحَدُهُمَا ‏"

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "If a man says to his brother, O Kafir (disbeliever)!' Then surely one of them is such (i.e., a Kafir). "
