حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ كُلَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي وَسَدِّدْنِي وَاذْكُرْ بِالْهِدَايَةِ هِدَايَةَ الطَّرِيقِ وَاذْكُرْ بِالسَّدَادِ تَسْدِيدَكَ السَّهْمَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَنَهَانِي أَنْ أَضَعَ الْخَاتَمَ فِي هَذِهِ أَوْ فِي هَذِهِ لِلسَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَى - شَكَّ عَاصِمٌ - وَنَهَانِي عَنِ الْقَسِّيَّةِ وَالْمِيثَرَةِ ‏.‏

Narrated Ali:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me: Say: O Allah, guide me, and set me right. Remember by guidance (hidayah) the showing of the straight path, and remember by setting right (sadad) the setting right of an arrow. Then pointing to the middle finger and the one next to it, he said: He forbade me to wear a signet-ring on this finger of mine or on this (Asim was doubtful). He forbade me to wear qassiyyah (qasi garments) and mitharah. Abu Burdah said: We asked 'Ali: What is qasiyyah ? He said: These are garments imported to us from Syria or Egypt. They are stripped and marked like citrons. And mitharah was a thing made by women for their husbands.

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( وَاذْكُرْ بِالْهِدَايَةِ هِدَايَة الطَّرِيق ) : مَعْنَاهُ أَنَّ سَالِك الطَّرِيق فِي الْفَلَاة إِنَّمَا يَؤُمّ سَمْت الطَّرِيق وَلَا يَكَاد يُفَارِق الْجَادَّة وَلَا يَعْدِل عَنْهَا يَمْنَة وَيَسْرَة خَوْفًا مِنْ الضَّلَال , وَبِذَلِكَ يُصِيب الْهِدَايَة وَيَنَال السَّلَامَة , يَقُول إِذَا سَأَلْت اللَّه الْهُدَى فَأَحْضِرْ بِقَلْبِك هِدَايَة الطَّرِيق وَسَلْ الْهِدَايَة وَالِاسْتِقَامَة كَمَا تَتَحَرَّاهُ فِي هِدَايَة الطَّرِيق إِذَا سَلَكْتهَا ( وَاذْكُرْ بِالسَّدَادِ تَسْدِيدك السَّهْم ) : مَعْنَاهُ أَنَّ الرَّامِي إِذَا رَمَى غَرَضًا سَدَّدَ بِالسَّهْمِ نَحْو الْغَرَض , وَلَمْ يَعْدِل عَنْهُ يَمِينًا وَلَا شِمَالًا لِيُصِيبَ الرَّمْيَة فَلَا يَطِيش سَهْمه وَلَا يُخْنَق سَعْيه , بِقَوْل…

Authentic Sunan an-Nasa'i 5376

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to me: "Say: O Allah, make me steadfast and guide me." And he forbade me to sit on Al-Mayathir." Al-Mayathir: Qassi which the women used to put on the saddles for their husbands, such as red cushions.

اللَّهُمَّ سَدِّدْنِي وَاهْدِنِي ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَنَهَانِي عَنِ الْجُلُوسِ عَلَى الْمَيَاثِرِ وَالْمَيَاثِرُ قَسِّيٌّ كَانَتْ تَصْنَعُهُ النِّسَاءُ لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ كَالْقَطَائِفِ مِنَ الأُرْجُوَانِ

Narrated by Ali

Authentic Sunan an-Nasa'i 5210

'Ali said: "The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to me: 'O 'Ali, ask Allah for guidance and steadfastness,' and he forbade me from placing a ring on this one and this one' - and he pointed to his forefinger and middle finger.

سَلِ اللَّهَ الْهُدَى وَالسَّدَادَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَنَهَانِي أَنْ أَجْعَلَ الْخَاتَمَ فِي هَذِهِ وَهَذِهِ ‏.‏ وَأَشَارَ يَعْنِي بِالسَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَى ‏.‏

Narrated by Ali

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to me: 'Say: O Allah, guide me and make me steadfast,' and he forbade me to put a ring on this one and this one" - and Bishr (one of the narrators) pointed to his forefinger and middle finger. And 'Asim said: "One of the two of them."
