Narrator:Ibn ‘Abbās

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏:‏ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً، رَكِبَتِ الْبَحْرَ فَنَذَرَتْ إِنْ نَجَّاهَا اللَّهُ أَنْ تَصُومَ شَهْرًا، فَنَجَّاهَا اللَّهُ فَلَمْ تَصُمْ حَتَّى مَاتَتْ، فَجَاءَتِ ابْنَتُهَا أَوْ أُخْتُهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

فَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَصُومَ عَنْهَا ‏.‏

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas:

A woman made a voyage and vowed that she would fast one month if Allah made her reach her destination with peace and security. Allah made her reach her destination with security but she died before she could fast. Her daughter or sister (the narrator doubted) came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). So he commanded to fast on her behalf.

Reported by Abu Dawud (No. 3308), An-Nasa’i (No. 3816) and Ahmad (No. 2971).

Explanation in Arabic

قال ابن عباس: إن امرأة ركبت السفينة في البحر، فنذرت إن نجاها الله من البحر ووصلت للبر سليمة أن تصوم شهرًا، فنجاها الله، فلم تصم الشهر حتى ماتت، فأتت ابنتُها أو أختُها إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فأخبرته بأمرها، فأمرها عليه الصلاة والسلام أن تصوم الشهر عنها أمر استحباب، عند أكثر العلماء.

  • يستحب لولي الميت قضاء النذر عن الميت.

"A woman traveled by sea and vowed to fast for a month, but she died before she could fast. Her sister came to the Prophet and told him about that, and he told her to fast on her behalf."

رَكِبَتِ امْرَأَةٌ الْبَحْرَ فَنَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَصُومَ شَهْرًا فَمَاتَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَصُومَ فَأَتَتْ أُخْتُهَا النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَصُومَ عَنْهَا ‏.‏
