حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ بَهْرَامَ الْمَدَائِنِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَسْبَاطِ الْحَارِثِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ جُنَادَةَ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

يَقُومُ فِي الْجَنَازَةِ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ فِي اللَّحْدِ فَمَرَّ بِهِ حَبْرٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا نَفْعَلُ ‏.‏ فَجَلَسَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَقَالَ ‏"‏ اجْلِسُوا خَالِفُوهُمْ ‏"

Narrated Ubadah ibn as-Samit:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to stand up for a funeral until the corpse was placed in the grave. A learned Jew (once) passed him and said: This is how we do. The Prophet (ﷺ) sat down and said: Sit down and act differently from them.

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( أَبُو الْأَسْبَاط الْحَارِثِيّ ) : هُوَ بِشْر بْن رَافِع إِمَام مَسْجِد نَجْرَان , وَثَّقَهُ اِبْن مَعِين وَابْن عَدِيّ , وَقَالَ الْبُخَارِيّ : لَا يُتَابَع , وَضَعَّفَهُ التِّرْمِذِيّ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ وَأَبُو حَاتِم وَأَحْمَد ( حَتَّى تُوضَع فِي اللَّحْد ) : بِفَتْحِ اللَّام وَتُضَمّ وَسُكُون الْحَاء الشَّقّ فِي جَانِب الْقِبْلَة مِنْ الْقَبْر ( فَمَرَّ بِهِ ) : أَيْ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ( حَبْر ) : بِفَتْحِ الْحَاء وَتُكْسَر أَيْ عَالِم ( فَقَالَ ) : أَيْ الْحَبْر ( فَجَلَسَ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) : أَيْ بَعْد مَا كَانَ وَاقِفًا , أَوْ بَعْد ذَلِكَ. وَلَفْظ اِبْن مَاجَهْ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّد بْن بَشَّار وَعُقْبَة بْنُ مُكْرَم قَالَا حَدَّثَنَ…

"When any one of you sees a funeral and is not walking with it, let him stand up until it has passed him, or until (the body) is placed (in the grave) before if passes him."
