حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الضَّبِّيُّ، عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ الْمُعْتَمِرِ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

لاَ تُقَدِّمُوا الشَّهْرَ حَتَّى تَرَوُا الْهِلاَلَ أَوْ تُكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ ثُمَّ صُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوُا الْهِلاَلَ أَوْ تُكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ ‏"

Narrated Hudhayfah:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Do not fast (for Ramadan) before the coming of the month until you sight the moon or complete the number (of thirty days); then fast until you sight the moon or complete the number (of thirty days).

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( لَا تُقَدِّمُوا الشَّهْر ) : الْأَقْرَب مَعْنَى أَنَّهُ مِنْ التَّقْدِيم أَيْ لَا تَحْكُمُوا بِالشَّهْرِ قَبْل أَوَانه وَلَا تُقَدِّمُوهُ عَنْ وَقْته بَلْ اِصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْا الْهِلَال. قَالَهُ فِي فَتْح الْوَدُود ( أَوْ تُكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّة ) : أَيْ ثَلَاثِينَ يَوْمًا , وَهُوَ مَحَلّ التَّرْجَمَة لِأَنَّ إِكْمَال الْعِدَّة فِي حَالَة الْغَيْم ضَرُورِيّ. قَالَ الْمُنْذِرِيُّ : وَالْحَدِيث أَخْرَجَهُ النَّسَائِيُّ مُسْنَدًا وَمُرْسَلًا وَقَالَ لَا أَعْلَم أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَاب مَنْصُور قَالَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيث عَنْ حُذَيْفَة غَيْر جَرِير يَعْنِي اِبْن عَبْد الْحَمِيد. وَقَالَ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ : وَصَلَهُ جَرِير عَنْ مَنْصُور فَذَكَرَ حُذَيْفَة فِيهِ وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ حُجَّة , وَرَوَى لَهُ ا…

The month is thus and thus. (He then withdrew his thumb at the third time). He then said: Fast when you see it, and break your fast when you see it, and if the weather is cloudy calculate it (the months of Sha'ban and Shawwal) as thirty days.
