Muslims in Malaysia welcome the holy month of Ramadan by cleaning the streets and decorating them with light bulbs and colored plastic ribbons. The announcement of the beginning of Ramadan in some areas of the country is made through playing the tambourines, igniting incense and spraying perfumes in mosques.
In rural areas, Malaysians celebrate the holy month by inviting each other to take Iftar alternately. As such, each family volunteers to take charge of feeding all the villagers during a specific day of Ramadan. The poor and needy families are exempted from this ritual.
Regarding food habits in Ramadan, the Malaysian cuisine is known with a variety of delicious dishes and meals such as "Gatri Mandi", the " Badeq" dish made of flour and other dishes which essentiality consist of chicken, rice, dattes and fruits.
Concerning the date of the first day of Ramadan, Assabile website will announce it once it is confirmed by official authorities. Untill then, the first day of Ramadan for the year 1445/2024 is expected to be in the 11 March 2024 (more or less one day).
