These verses command charity (sadaqa) and spending in the way of Allah and praise those who spend, explaining on whom to spend and that giving openly is accepted while giving in secret is better. They set its conditions — seeking the face of Allah, without reminders of generosity or injury, with moderation between extravagance and miserliness — warn that spending to be seen is wasted, and promise a multiplied reward.

Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allāh at all, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allāh. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered.
And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allāh has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allāh had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."
