Sadness and the distress that tightens the chest are at the heart of these verses. They assure that those who believe and do good, the allies of Allah and the martyrs will not grieve, and that there is no sorrow in Paradise. They urge the Prophet ﷺ not to grieve over the disbelievers’ refusal, and recall that everything happens by Allah’s decree.

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ ٱئْذَن لِّى وَلَا تَفْتِنِّىٓ أَلَا فِى ٱلْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا۟ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ بِٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ ٤٩
And among them is he who says, "Permit me [to remain at home] and do not put me to trial." Unquestionably, into trial they have fallen. And indeed, Hell will encompass the disbelievers.
