David appears in these verses as a prophet given a Book, to whom Allah granted knowledge and kingship and whom He made a successor on earth. They mention the angels who climbed the wall of his sanctuary, the mountains and birds glorifying Allah with him, iron made soft for him to craft coats of mail, his killing of Goliath, and his son Solomon, a prophet like him.
Verses gathered from a topical index of the Quran, in Mushaf order; every verse is quoted in full.
[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allāh." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allāh will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.
