Inheritance takes on several meanings here: the earth that Allah’s righteous servants will inherit, the inheritance of the heavens and the earth that belongs to Allah, the heirs of Paradise and the inheritance of the Book. The verses also set out the general principle of succession, its rules among parents, children, siblings and spouses and the case of kalalah, warning against transgressing Allah’s limits.
Verses gathered from a topical index of the Quran, in Mushaf order; every verse is quoted in full.
And there followed them successors who inherited the Scripture [while] taking the commodities of this lower life and saying, "It will be forgiven for us." And if an offer like it comes to them, they will [again] take it. Was not the covenant of the Scripture [i.e., the Torah] taken from them that they would not say about Allāh except the truth, and they studied what was in it? And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allāh, so will you not use reason?
Then We caused to inherit the Book those We have chosen of Our servants; and among them is he who wrongs himself [i.e., sins], and among them is he who is moderate, and among them is he who is foremost in good deeds by permission of Allāh. That [inheritance] is what is the great bounty.
