Ignorance is presented in these verses as the opposite of knowledge, and the Jahiliyyah as the opposite of Islam. They describe several of its forms, from unruly conduct to deviation from sound human nature and absurd demands, call for turning away from the ignorant, and recall that Allah forgives whoever does wrong out of ignorance and then repents.
Verses gathered from a topical index of the Quran, in Mushaf order; every verse is quoted in full.
[Charity is] for the poor who have been restricted for the cause of Allāh, unable to move about in the land. An ignorant [person] would think them self-sufficient because of their restraint, but you will know them by their [characteristic] sign. They do not ask people persistently [or at all]. And whatever you spend of good - indeed, Allāh is Knowing of it.
The repentance accepted by Allāh is only for those who do wrong in ignorance [or carelessness] and then repent soon [after]. It is those to whom Allāh will turn in forgiveness, and Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.
And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then repents after that and corrects himself - indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful."
Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves - indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.
