The rulings on divorce are set out in these verses: parting from one’s wife in a good manner, with no harm done to the divorced woman, revocable divorces and irrevocable divorce, and separation in return for compensation paid by the wife. They also deal with the waiting period of the divorced woman and of the widow, the oath of abstinence, and the case of a woman divorced before the marriage is consummated.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا نَكَحْتُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ طَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّ مِن قَبْلِ أَن تَمَسُّوهُنَّ فَمَا لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ عِدَّةٍ تَعْتَدُّونَهَا فَمَتِّعُوهُنَّ وَسَرِّحُوهُنَّ سَرَاحًا جَمِيلًا ٤٩
O you who have believed, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them [i.e., consummated the marriage], then there is not for you any waiting period to count concerning them. So provide for them and give them a gracious release.
