Tafsir of verse 39
Al-Mukhtasar
Those who when afflicted by oppression, they defend themselves, in honour and respect for themselves, if the oppressor is not worthy of pardon. This defence is justified, especially if there is no benefit in pardon.
[21] Restoring their rights to preserve their honor and dignity, especially if the oppressor does not deserve remission, or it does not serve any interest.
And those who, when an oppressive wrong is done to them, take revenge.
And those who, when great wrong is done to them, defend themselves,
And those who, when an oppressive wrong is inflicted on them, (are not cowed but) help and defend themselves.
And those who, when great wrong afflicts them, defend themselves.
And the ones who, when inequity afflicts them, are they (who) vindicate themselves.
