Tafsir of verse 54
Al-Mukhtasar
Those who have been described as mentioned will be given the reward of their actions by Allah twice, due to their persevering in faith in their own book and due to their faith in Muhammad (peace be upon him) when he was sent. They repel through the good of their righteous actions the sins they earned, and from what I have provided them they spend in the avenues of good.
They will be given their reward twice for their patience, repelling evil with good26, and for spending out of what We have provided for them.
Notes
[26] i.e., compensating their misdeeds with good deeds, or responding to evil with what is good.
These will be given their reward twice over,2 because they are patient, and repel evil with good, and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided them.
Notes
[2] (V.28:54)
a) Narrated Abû Burdah’s father: Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Any man who has a slave-girl whom he educates properly, teaches good manners, manumits and marries her, will get a double reward. And if any man of the people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians) believes in his own Prophet and then believes in me (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) too, he will (also) get a double reward. And any slave who fulfils his duty to his master and to his Lord (Allah), will (also) get a double reward." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.7, Hadîth No.20).
b) See the footnote of (V.3:85).
These will be given their reward twice over, because they are steadfast and repel evil with good, and spend of that wherewith We have provided them,
Twice will they be given their reward, for that they have persevered, that they avert Evil with Good, and that they spend (in charity) out of what We have given them.
These shall be granted their reward twice, because they are steadfast and they repel evil with good and spend out of what We have given them.
Those will be brought their reward twice (over) for that they patiently (endured), and parry an odious (deed) by a fair (one), and expend of what We have provided them.
