On the day of the conquest of Mecca, the Prophet ﷺ prayed eight rakʿas in her house at the time of duha (al-Bukhari 1176). She had granted protection to a man her brother wanted to kill, and the Prophet ﷺ told her: “We protect whomever you have protected, O Umm Haniʾ” (al-Bukhari 357).
Umm Haniʾ is a kunya, “the mother of Haniʾ” (haniʾ, “one who gives gladly, a servant”), that of Fakhita bint Abi Talib, cousin of the Prophet ﷺ and sister of ʿAli. In Turkey it has become a name in its own right, Ümmühan or Ümmühani, given in her memory.
