Meaning of the name Rawan
Rawan comes from a Persian word with two meanings: “soul, spirit” (ravan, from Old Iranian urvan) and “flowing, going”, the participle of the verb raftan, “to go”, as in ab-e ravan, “running water”. The name has become very common in Syria, Jordan, Iraq and the Gulf, where it is often explained as “fresh flowing water”. There it is feminine; in Turkey, Revan is mostly given to boys.
