نُهَى
Girl Arabic origin Nuhā
In the Quran“Intellect, reason” that restrains from evil
The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Taha 20:54.
The Quran twice uses the expression ulu al-nuha, “people of reason”, for whom the signs of creation are lessons: “Indeed in that are signs for people of reason” (20:54, 20:128).
Nuha is the plural of nuhya, “intellect, reason”: it is so called because it restrains (naha, “to forbid, to hold back”) from what is ugly and harmful. The name thus means “wisdom, a sound mind”. Common in Egypt (Noha) and the Levant.
