Boy Arabic origin Ḥusām
“The sharp sword”
Meaning of the name Hussam
Husam means a sword with a cutting edge, from hasama, “to cut cleanly, to settle” (root h-s-m, whence hasm, “decisive settlement”). It is one of the many names of the sword in the language of poets. It forms the honorific title Husam al-Din, “sword of the religion”, borne by scholars and princes in the Middle Ages. The name is common in Egypt, the Levant and Iraq; in Tunisia it is often written Houssem.
