Chapter: Regarding Surat At-Takathur

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتَّْ ‏:‏ ‏‏(‏ثم لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ، ‏)‏ قَالَ الزُّبَيْرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ

فَأَىُّ النَّعِيمِ نُسْأَلُ عَنْهُ وَإِنَّمَا هُمَا الأَسْوَدَانِ التَّمْرُ وَالْمَاءُ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَمَا إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ ‏"

Az-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwām reported:

When the following verse was revealed {Then, on that Day, you will definitely be questioned about your worldly pleasures.} [Surat at-Takāthur: 8], Az-Zubayr said: "O Messenger of Allah, which pleasures will we be asked about; there are only the two black things: dates and water?" He said: "This will certainly come."

Explanation

When the following verse was revealed: {Then on that Day, you will indeed be asked about your worldly pleasures} i.e., You will be asked about the gratitude you showed for the pleasures Allah has bestowed upon you - Az-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwām (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, which pleasures will we be asked about?! Only two blessings are not among the things that deserve to be asked about, namely dates and water!

Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Verily, you will be asked about the worldly pleasures despite the state you are in, for these two are great blessings from among the blessings of Allah Almighty.

Lessons

  • The Hadīth stresses the duty of showing gratitude to Allah Almighty for His blessings.
  • Worldly pleasures are among the things a person will be asked about on the Day of Judgment, whether little or great.

Explanation in Arabic

لما نزلت آية:

{ثم لتسألن يومئذ عن النعيم} أي: سوف تُسألون عن القيام بِشُكْر ما أنعم الله به عليكم من النعم، قال الزبير بن العوام رضي الله عنه: يا رسول الله، أيّ نعيمٍ سنُسأل عنه؟! إنما هما نِعْمَتان لَيْسَتا ممّا يستَدِعي السؤال وهما التَّمر والماء!

فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: أما إنكم ستسألون عن النَّعيم مع هذه الحالة التي أنتم عليها، فإنهما نِعمتان عظيمتان مِن نِعَم الله تعالى.

  • التَّأكيد على شكر الله تعالى على النِّعم.
  • النّعيم ممّا سيُسأل عنه العبد يوم القيامة قليلًا كان أو كثيرًا.

قَوْلُهُ : { ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنْ النَّعِيمِ } أَيْ عَنْ شُكْرِ مَا أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ بِهِ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ الصِّحَّةِ وَالْأَمْنِ وَالرِّزْقِ وَغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ ( إِنَّمَا هُمَا الْأَسْوَدَانِ ) أَيْ إِنَّمَا عِنْدَنَا نِعْمَتَانِ لَيْسَتَا مِمَّا نُسْأَلُ عَنْهُمَا لِدَنَاءَتِهِمَا وَهُمَا الْأَسْوَدَانِ ( التَّمْرُ وَالْمَاءُ ) بَيَانٌ لِ ( الْأَسْوَدَانِ ) أَمَّا التَّمْرُ فَأَسْوَدُ وَهُوَ الْغَالِبُ عَلَى تَمْرِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَأُضِيفَ الْمَاءُ إِلَيْهِ وَنُعِتَ بِنَعْتِهِ اِتِّبَاعًا وَالْعَرَبُ تَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ فِي الشَّيْئَيْنِ يُصْطَحَبَانِ فَيُسَمَّيَانِ مَعًا بِاسْمِ الْأَشْهَرِ مِنْهَا كَالْقَمَرَيْنِ وَالْعُمَرَيْنِ كَذَا فِي النِّهَايَةِ ( أَمَا ) بِالتَّخْفِيفِ حَرْفُ…
