أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ ظَبْيَانَ، عَنْ حُكَيْمِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِهِ رَدْعٌ مِنْ خَلُوقٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏

"‏ اذْهَبْ فَانْهَكْهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ اذْهَبْ فَانْهَكْهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ اذْهَبْ فَانْهَكْهُ ثُمَّ لاَ تَعُدْ ‏"

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:

"A man came to the Prophet [SAW] wearing a little dab of Khaluq." The Prophet [SAW] said to him: 'Go and scrub it off.' Then he came (again) and he said: 'Go and scrub it off.' Then he came to him (again) and he said: 'Go and scrub it off, and don't put it on again.'"

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan al-Nasa'i

قَوْله ( رَدْع ) بِفَتْحٍ فَسُكُون وَبِعَيْنٍ مُهْمَلَة وَقِيلَ بِمُعْجَمَةٍ لَطْخ لَمْ يَعُمّ الْبَدَن كُلّه ( مِنْ خَلُوق ) بِفَتْحِ خَاء مُعْجَمَة آخِره قَاف طِيب يَتَرَكَّب مِنْ زَعْفَرَان وَغَيْره ( فَأَنْهَكَهُ ) أَيْ بَالَغَ فِي غَسْله يَدُلّ الْحَدِيث عَلَى شِدَّة كَرَاهَة اِسْتِعْمَال مَا لَهُ لَوْن لِلرِّجَالِ.…

Ya‘la b. Murra told that when the Prophet saw some khaluq (A liquid, yellow perfume mainly composed of saffron) on him he asked whether he had a wife, and when he replied that he had not he said, “Wash it, then wash it, then wash it, and do not use it again.” Tirmidhi and Nasa'i transmitted it.

I came to my family after a journey with my hands chapped and they perfumed me with saffron. In the morning I went to the Prophet and gave him a greeting, but instead of responding to it he said, “Go away and wash this off yourself.” Abu Dawud transimitted it.
