Narrator:Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar

أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، رضى الله عنهما أَنَّ

امْرَأَةً، مَخْزُومِيَّةً كَانَتْ تَسْتَعِيرُ الْمَتَاعَ فَتَجْحَدُهُ فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِقَطْعِ يَدِهَا ‏.‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that a Makhzumi woman used to borrow things then deny that she had borrowed them, so the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered that her hand be cut off.

قَوْله ( تَسْتَعِير الْمَتَاع ) قِيلَ ذُكِرَتْ الْعَارِيَة تَعْرِيفًا لِحَالِهَا الشَّنِيعَة لَا لِأَنَّهَا سَبَب الْقَطْع وَسَبَب الْقَطْع إِنَّمَا كَانَ السَّرِقَة لَا جَحْد الْعَارِيَة قَالَ الْجُمْهُور لَا قَطْع عَلَى مَنْ جَحَدَ الْعَارِيَة وَقَالَ أَحْمَد وَإِسْحَق بِالْقَطْعِ قُلْت قَوْل الرَّاوِي فَأَمَرَ بِالْفَاءِ ظَاهِر فِي قَوْل أَحْمَد وَآبَ عَنْ تَأْوِيل الْجُمْهُور وَقَدْ جَاءَ فِي بَعْض الرِّوَايَات مَا هُوَ كَالصَّرِيحِ فِي ذَلِكَ وَمَا جَاءَ مِنْ لَفْظ السَّرِقَة فِي بَعْض الرِّوَايَات فَيَحْتَمِل التَّأْوِيل وَاَللَّه تَعَالَى أَعْلَم.…

‘A’isha told that when a thief was brought to God’s Messenger and he had his hand cut off, those who brought him said, "We did not think you would go so far as this with him.” He replied, "If Fatima had been the one, I would have had her hand cut off.” Nasa’i transmitted it.

A woman committed theft in the Ghazwa of the Conquest (of Mecca) and she was taken to the Prophet who ordered her hand to be cut off. `Aisha said, "Her repentance was perfect and she was married (later) and used to come to me (after that) and I would present her needs to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)."

The Prophet (ﷺ) cut off the hand of a lady, and that lady used to come to me, and I used to convey her message to the Prophet (ﷺ) and she repented, and her repentance was sincere.

قَطَعَ يَدَ امْرَأَةٍ‏.‏ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ وَكَانَتْ تَأْتِي بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ، فَأَرْفَعُ حَاجَتَهَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَتَابَتْ وَحَسُنَتْ تَوْبَتُهَا‏.‏
