أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، وَيَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم

رَخَّصَ فِي الْعَرَايَا أَنْ تُبَاعَ بِخَرْصِهَا فِي خَمْسَةِ أَوْسُقٍ أَوْ مَا دُونَ خَمْسَةِ أَوْسُقٍ ‏.‏

It was narrated from Au Hurairah that the prophet granted a concession allowing estimation for 'Ararya sales, so long as they were five Wasq or less then that

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) granted concession for the sale of Al-‘Arāyā (unpicked ripe dates for dry dates) when they are equal to or less than five Wasqs (a standard measure).

رَخَّصَ فِي بَيْعِ الْعَرَايَا بِخَرْصِهَا فِيمَا دُونَ خَمْسَةِ أَوْسُقٍ أَوْ فِي خَمْسَةِ -

Abu Huraira said God's Messenger gave licence regarding the sale of ‘araya for a computation of their amount when dry, provided they were less than five wasqs*, or amounted to five wasqs. Dawud b. al Husain was doubtful [which he said.] (Bukhari and Muslim.) *(wasq is a camel load=60 sa’s)

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade the sale of fruits for dried dates, but gave license regarding the 'araya for its sale on the basis of a calculation of their amount. But those who buy them can eat them when fresh.
