ابن حجر العسقلاتي : قال في التقريب صحابي معروف وقال في الإصابة أسلم يوم الفتح واستكتبه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وكان يجيب عنه الملوك وبلغ من أمانته عنده أنه كان يأمره أن يكتب إلى بعض الملوك فيكتب ويختم ولا يقرؤه لأمانته عنده ثم كتب لأبي بكر وعمر وكان على بيت المال أيام عمر وكان أميرا عنده وقال السائب بن يزيد ما رأيت أخشى لله منه
