حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم احْتَجَمَ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِلَحْيَىْ جَمَلٍ مَكَانٌ بِطَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ ‏.‏

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was once cupped on the top of his head while he was in ihram, at Lahyay Jamal, which is a place on the road to Makka.

( ش ) : قَوْلُهُ احْتَجَمَ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ بَيَانٌ لِمَوْضِعِ الْحِجَامَةِ ; لِأَنَّهَا تَخْتَلِفُ بِاخْتِلَافِ مَوْضِعهَا وَهِيَ فِي الرَّأْسِ أَشَدُّ لِمَا يَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَلْقِ شَعْرِ مَوْضِعِهَا وَرُبَّمَا قَتَلَ شَيْئًا مِنْ الدَّوَابِّ إِلَّا أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كُلَّهُ مُبَاحٌ مَعَ الْحَاجَةِ إِلَيْهِ وَقَدْ رَوَى عَنْهُ أَوْ شَيْئًا كَانَ لَهُ عَلَى قَدَمِهِ وَالْحِجَامَةُ تَكُونُ عَلَى ضَرْبَيْنِ : أَحَدِهِمَا يُحْلَقُ لَهُ شَعْرٌ إِذَا كَانَتْ فِي الرَّأْسِ أَوْ الْعُنُقِ أَوْ مَوْضِعٍ فِيهِ شَعْرٌ , وَضَرْبٍ لَا يَحْتَاجُ إِلَى حَلْقِ شَعْرٍ بِأَنْ يَكُونَ فِي ظَهْرِ قَدَمٍ أَوْ ظَهْرٍ أَوْ مَوْضِعٍ لَا شَعْرَ فِيهِ فَأَمَّا إِذَا كَانَتْ بِمَوْضِعٍ فِيهِ شَعْرٌ…

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had himself cupped and gave the one who cupped him his pay; and if it were prohibited he would not have given him (his pay). [Reported by al-Bukhari].

Anas said that God’s messenger had himself cupped on the surface of his foot because of a pain in it while he was in the sacred state. Abu Dawud and Nasa’i transmitted it.
