حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ جُدْعَانَ كَانَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقْرِي الضَّيْفَ وَيَفُكُّ الْعَانِيَ وَيَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ وَيُحْسِنُ الْجِوَارَ فَأَثْنَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَقُلْ يَوْمًا قَطُّ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ مَرَّةً فَأَثْنَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ

I said: "O Messenger of Allah, Ibn Jud‘ān used to uphold kinship ties and feed the poor during the Jāhiliyyah (pre-Islamic era of ignorance). Will this benefit him?" He said: "It will not benefit him, for he did not ever say: My Lord, forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment."
