Chapter: The command to keep refreshing one’s knowledge of the Qur’an and that it is disliked to say I have forgotten such-and-such a verse, but it is permissible to say I have been caused to forget

Authentic hadith of Sahih Muslim Sahih Muslim 788b

Narrator:Ā’ishah

وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم

يَسْتَمِعُ قِرَاءَةَ رَجُلٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ لَقَدْ أَذْكَرَنِي آيَةً كُنْتُ أُنْسِيتُهَا ‏"

'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) listened to the recitation of the Qur'an by a man in the mosque. Thereupon he said:

May Allah have mercy upon him; be reminded me of the verse which I had been made to forget.

وَقَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( كُنْت أُنْسِيتهَا ) دَلِيل عَلَى جَوَاز النِّسْيَان عَلَيْهِ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَا قَدْ بَلَّغَهُ إِلَى الْأُمَّة , وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ فِي بَاب سُجُود السَّهْو الْكَلَام فِيمَا يَجُوز مِنْ السَّهْو عَلَيْهِ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَا لَا يَجُوز. قَالَ الْقَاضِي عِيَاض - رَحِمَهُ اللَّه - : جُمْهُور الْمُحَقِّقِينَ جَوَاز النِّسْيَان عَلَيْهِ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اِبْتِدَاء فِيمَا لَيْسَ طَرِيقه الْبَلَاغ , وَاخْتَلَفُوا فِيمَا طَرِيقه الْبَلَاغ وَالتَّعْلِيم , وَلَكِنْ مَنْ جَوَّزَ قَالَ : لَا يُقَرُّ عَلَيْهِ بَلْ لَا بُدّ أَنْ يَتَذَكَّرهُ أَوْ يَذْكُرهُ , وَاخْتَلَفُوا هَلْ مِنْ شُرُوط ذَلِكَ الْفَوْر أَ…
