Narrator:Abu Hurayrah

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفُضَيْلُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ عِيَاضٍ - عَنْ هِشَامٍ، ح قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

إِذَا ثُوِّبَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَلاَ يَسْعَ إِلَيْهَا أَحَدُكُمْ وَلَكِنْ لِيَمْشِ وَعَلَيْهِ السَّكِينَةُ وَالْوَقَارُ صَلِّ مَا أَدْرَكْتَ وَاقْضِ مَا سَبَقَكَ ‏"

Abu Huraira reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When the words of Iqama are pronounced, none of you should run to it (to join the prayer) but walk with tranquillity and dignity, and pray what you are in time for and complete what has gone before (what the Imam has completed).

Reported by Muslim (No. 602d) and Ahmad (No. 9149).

An-Nawawi — Sharh Sahih Muslim

قَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( إِذَا ثُوِّبَ بِالصَّلَاةِ ) مَعْنَاهُ إِذَا أُقِيمَتْ , سُمِّيَتْ الْإِقَامَة تَثْوِيبًا ; لِأَنَّهَا دُعَاء إِلَى الصَّلَاة بَعْد الدُّعَاء بِالْأَذَانِ مِنْ قَوْلهمْ : ثَابَ إِذَا رَجَعَ. قَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( وَعَلَيْهِ السَّكِينَة وَالْوَقَار ) قِيلَ : هُمَا بِمَعْنًى , وَجَمَعَ بَيْنهمَا تَأْكِيدًا , وَالظَّاهِر أَنَّ بَيْنهمَا فَرْقًا , وَأَنَّ السَّكِينَة التَّأَنِّي فِي الْحَرَكَات وَاجْتِنَاب الْعَبَث وَنَحْو ذَلِكَ , وَالْوَقَار فِي الْهَيْئَة وَغَضّ الْبَصَر وَخَفْض الصَّوْت وَالْإِقْبَال عَلَى طَرِيقه بِغَيْرِ اِلْتِفَات , وَنَحْو ذَلِكَ. وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ.…
