Narrator:Abu ad-Dardā’

حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الأَوْزَاعِيَّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْمُعَيْطِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي مَعْدَانُ بْنُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْيَعْمَرِيُّ، قَالَ لَقِيتُ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقُلْتُ أَخْبِرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ أَعْمَلُهُ يُدْخِلُنِي اللَّهُ بِهِ الْجَنَّةَ ‏.‏ أَوْ قَالَ قُلْتُ بِأَحَبِّ الأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ ‏.‏ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ ‏"‏

عَلَيْكَ بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ لِلَّهِ فَإِنَّكَ لاَ تَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً إِلاَّ رَفَعَكَ اللَّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَحَطَّ عَنْكَ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً ‏"

Ma‘dān ibn Abi Talhah al-Ya‘mari reported:

I met Thawbān, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: Tell me about a deed to perform by virtue of which Allah admits me to Paradise - or he said: I said: about the deeds that Allah loves most - but he remained silent. Then I asked him, but he remained silent. Then I asked him for the third time, and he said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about this, and he said: "Make frequent prostrations to Allah, for you do not make a single prostration to Allah except that Allah raises you one degree therewith and remits one sin from you therewith." Ma‘dān said: Then I met Abu ad-Dardā’ and I asked him and he told me the same as Thawbān.

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the deed that leads to Paradise or about the deeds that Allah loves most.

He (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to the questioner: Adhere to prostration frequently during the prayer, for you do not make a single prostration to Allah except that Allah raises you one degree therewith and forgives one of your sins therewith.

Lessons

  • Encouraging Muslims to pay good attention to prayer, both obligatory and voluntary, as it includes prostration.
  • It demonstrates the Companions' good understanding of the religion and their awareness of the fact that Paradise cannot be attained except through Allah's mercy first, then through good deeds.
  • Prostration during the prayer is among the greatest means of raising ranks and forgiving sins.

Explanation in Arabic

سُئِلَ النبيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عن العمل الذي يكون سببًا لدخول الجنة أو عن أحب الأعمال إلى الله؟

فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم للسائل: الزم كثرة السجود في الصلاة، فإنك ما سجدت لله سجده إلا رفعك بها درجة، وغفر عنك بها خطيئة.

  • حث المسلم على الحرص على الصلاة فرضًا وتطوعًا، لاشتمالها على السجود.
  • بيان فقه الصحابة وعلمهم أن الجنة لا تنال -بعد رحمة الله- إلا بالعمل.
  • السجود في الصلاة من أعظم أسباب رفعة الدرجات، وغفران الذنوب.

فِيهِ قَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( عَلَيْك بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُود لِلَّهِ فَإِنَّك لَا تَسْجُد لِلَّهِ سَجْدَة إِلَّا رَفَعَك اللَّه بِهَا دَرَجَة وَحَطَّ عَنْك بِهَا خَطِيئَة ) وَفِي الْحَدِيث الْآخَر ( أَسْأَلك مُرَافَقَتك فِي الْجَنَّة قَالَ : أَوَغَيْر ذَلِكَ. قَالَ : هُوَ ذَلِكَ , قَالَ : فَأَعِنِّي عَلَى نَفْسك بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُود ). فِيهِ الْحَثّ عَلَى كَثْرَة السُّجُود , وَالتَّرْغِيب , وَالْمُرَاد بِهِ السُّجُود فِي الصَّلَاة , وَفِيهِ دَلِيل لِمَنْ يَقُول تَكْثِير السُّجُود أَفْضَل مِنْ إِطَالَة الْقِيَام , وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَتْ الْمَسْأَلَة وَالْخِلَاف فِيهَا فِي الْبَاب الَّذِي قَبْل هَذَا , وَسَبَب الْحَثّ عَلَيْهِ مَا سَبَقَ فِي الْحَدِيث الْمَاضِي " أَقْرَب مَا يَكُ…
