Narrator:Anas ibn Mālik

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً، كَانَ فِي عَقْلِهَا شَىْءٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ لِي إِلَيْكَ حَاجَةً فَقَالَ ‏"‏ يَا أُمَّ فُلاَنٍ

انْظُرِي أَىَّ السِّكَكِ شِئْتِ حَتَّى أَقْضِيَ لَكِ حَاجَتَكِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَخَلاَ مَعَهَا فِي بَعْضِ الطُّرُقِ حَتَّى فَرَغَتْ مِنْ حَاجَتِهَا ‏.‏

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a woman with some sort of mental disorder said: "O Messenger of Allah, I need your help in a certain matter." He said: "O Mother of so-and-so, choose which road you would like (to meet me on) so that I may give you the help you need." He then stood aside with her on some road until she finished telling him what she needed.

Explanation

A woman known to be mentally unstable said to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) that she needed his help. He asked her to choose a road on which they can meet so that he would help her with what she needed. He then stood aside with her on a much-trodden road until he gave her the help she needed. Needless to say, this was not forbidden seclusion with a non-Mahram woman, because the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stood aside with her on a much-trodden road where people could see them both but without hearing the woman’s speech (out of respect for her privacy). This behavior shows how humble and compassionate the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was towards his followers.

Explanation in Arabic

أنَّ امرأةً كان في عقلها شيء من النقص والخفة، قالت للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : يا رسول الله إنَّ أريد منك حاجة، فقال لها: يا أمَّ فلان انظري أيَّ طريق أردت أذهب معك إليه، حتى أقضيَ لكِ حاجتَك. فوقف معها في طريق مسلوك ليقضي حاجتها، ولم يكن ذلك من الخلوة بالأجنبية فإن هذا كان في ممر الناس ومشاهدتهم إياه وإياها، لكن لا يسمعون كلامها، وهو من تواضعه ورحمته بأمته صلى الله عليه وسلم .

  • في هذه الحديث بيان بروزه -صلى الله عليه وسلم- للناس وقربه منهم ليصل أهل الحقوق إلى حقوقهم، وهكذا ينبغي لولاة الأمور.
  • بيان صبره -صلى الله عليه وسلم- على المشقة في نفسه لمصلحة المسلمين وإجابته من سأله حاجة.
  • تواضعه -صلى الله عليه وسلم- بوقوفه مع المرأة الضعيفة.
  • جواز أن يخلو الرجل بالمرأة في الطريق العام؛ لأن رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قال: انظري أي السكك شئت، وذلك لأن الخلوة في الطريق ليست خلوة.
