وَحَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ - عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِذَا

صَلَّيْتُ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْمَكْتُوبَاتِ وَصُمْتُ رَمَضَانَ وَأَحْلَلْتُ الْحَلاَلَ وَحَرَّمْتُ الْحَرَامَ وَلَمْ أَزِدْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا أَأَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَالَ ‏"‏ نَعَمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ لاَ أَزِيدُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا

Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:

A man said to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him): "Do you think that if I perform the obligatory payers, fast Ramadan, treat the lawful as lawful, and treat the unlawful as unlawful, and do not do anything else beyond that, will I enter Paradise?" He said: 'Yes.' He said: "By Allah, I will not do anything more than that."

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) points out that if a person performs the five obligatory prayers and does not offer supererogatory ones, fasts Ramadan and does not observe voluntary fasting, and regards the lawful as lawful and acts upon it and regards the unlawful as unlawful and avoids it, he will enter Paradise.

Lessons

  • A Muslim should be keen on performing obligations and avoiding prohibited things, and his goal should be entering Paradise.
  • The Hadīth highlights the significance of doing what is lawful and regarding it as lawful and avoiding what is unlawful and regarding it as unlawful.
  • Fulfilling obligations and avoiding the prohibitions is a means leading to Paradise.

يُبَيِّنُ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أن من صلى الصلوات الخمس المفروضات ولم يزد عليها شيئًا من النوافل، وصام رمضان ولم يتطوع، واعتقد حِلَّ الحلال وفَعَله، واعتقد حُرمة الحرام واجتنبه، أنه يدخل الجنة.

  • حرص المسلم على فعل الفرائض وترك المحرمات، وأن تكون غايته دخول الجنة.
  • أهمية فعل الحلال واعتقاد حِلَّه، وتحريم الحرام واعتقاد حرمته.
  • فعل الواجبات وترك المحرمات سبب لدخول الجنة.

Would I enter Paradise if I say the obligatory prayers and deny myself that which is forbidden and treat that as lawful what has been made permissible (by the Shari'ah)? The Prophet (ﷺ) replied in the affirmative.
