وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا يَحْلِفُ أَحَدٌ عِنْدَ مِنْبَرِي هَذَا عَلَى يَمِينٍ آثِمَةٍ وَلَوْ عَلَى سِوَاكٍ أَخْضَرَ إِلَّا تَبَوَّأَ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ أَوْ وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ» . رَوَاهُ مَالِكٌ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ وَابْنُ مَاجَهْ

Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ''Anyone who takes a false oath at this pulpit of mine, even concerning a green tooth-stick, will surely occupy his seat in Hell – or he will surely enter Hell.''

Explanation

In this Hadīth, Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) clarified how grave a sin it is to swear a false oath at the Prophet's pulpit in his mosque, even concerning a trivial matter. Indeed, in this place, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) is to be glorified, and what he said on the pulpit is to be remembered. So, going against his teachings by taking a false oath makes one deserving of this threat. A false oath entails the wrath of Allah, but in such an honorable place (as the Prophet's pulpit inside his mosque) it is an uglier sin.

في هذا الحديث يخبر جابر رضي الله عنه أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بيّن عظيم إثم من حلف عند منبره صلى الله عليه وسلم الذي بمسجده كاذبًا في يمينه، ولو كان المحلوف عليه شيئًا حقيراً، لأن هذا المكان محل تعظيم له صلى الله عليه وسلم ، ومحل تذكر لما كان يقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم على هذا المنبر، فجاء هذا الحالف بأضداد هذه الأوصاف، فاستحق هذا الوعيد، واليمين الآثمة موجبة للسخط حيث وقعت، لكنها في الموضع الشريف أكثر إثمًا.

  • تحريم اليمين الكاذبة، وتغليظ أمرها، وعظيم خطرها، لاسيما إذا أديت في مكانٍ فاضل، كمنبر النَّبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أو زمان فاضل.
  • عظم إثم من حلف اليمين الآثمة عند منبر رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم-.
  • أن الإيمان إنما تصير مغلظة بحسب المكان والزمان والصيغة, لا بحسب المحلوف عليه وإن كان عظيمًا.
  • مشروعية تغليظ اليمين على الحالف بالمكان إذا استدعى الأمر لذلك.
  • أن الحلف عند منبر النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- بيمين كاذبة من كبائر الذنوب.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: One should not take a false oath at this pulpit of mine even on a green tooth-stick; otherwise he will make his abode in Hell, or Hell will be certain for him.

I heard Abu Salamah say: I heard Abu Hurairah say: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'No man or woman swears a false oath beside this pulpit, even if it is for a fresh twig, but he will be doomed to Hell.”
