Narrator:Anas ibn Mālik

حَدَّثَنَا جُبَارَةُ بْنُ الْمُغَلِّسِ، حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ ‏

"‏ إِنَّ هَذِهِ أُمَّةٌ مَرْحُومَةٌ عَذَابُهَا بِأَيْدِيهَا فَإِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ دُفِعَ إِلَى كُلِّ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَيُقَالُ هَذَا فِدَاؤُكَ مِنَ النَّارِ ‏"

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“This nation has been granted mercy (in the Hereafter) and its torment (in this world) is at the hands of one another. When the Day of Resurrection comes, each Muslim man will be given a man from among the idolaters and it will be said: ‘This is your ransom from the Fire.’”

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan Ibn Majah

قَوْله ( فَدَاكَ مِنْ النَّار ) أَيْ أَنَّهُ تَعَالَى يُعْطِي مَنْزِلَتك فِي النَّار إِيَّاهُ وَيُعْطِي مَنْزِلَته فِي الْجَنَّة إِيَّاكَ وَقَدْ جَاءَ أَنَّ لِكُلِّ وَاحِد مِنْ بَنِي آدَم مَنْزِلَيْنِ وَفِي الزَّوَائِد لَهُ شَاهِد فِي صَحِيح مُسْلِم فِي حَدِيث أَبِي بُرْدَة بْن أَبِي مُوسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَقَدْ أَعَلَّهُ الْبُخَارِيّ كَمَا تَقَدَّمَ.…

No Muslim would die but Allah would admit in his stead a Jew or a Christian in Hell-Fire. 'Umar b. Abd al-'Aziz took an oath: By One besides Whom there is no god but He, thrice that his father had narrated that to him from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ).
